The Paediatric Dentistry department, Ziauddin College of Dentistry, organized a school awareness program on Tuesday 8^th February 2022. Our faculty member Dr. Farwa Shafiq and house officer Dr. Muzna Aijaz Khan visited Hampton school. They delivered a lecture on Oral hygiene to grade 3 students. This was followed by a group activity where the children learned the proper brushing technique on teeth models. The faculty also did dental checkups for all the students. Overall it was a successful event organized by the Head of the Department of Operative Dentistry Dr. Asmat Jameel and Senior registrar Dr. Sadaf Ali.

On the 1^st of March 2021, the Ziauddin College of Dentistry opened its doors to the 12^th batch of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme. The event was held at Ziauddin University Clifton campus and included the presence of a few significant faculty members as well as the current batch of students joining us for the Spring 2021 semester. Here are some highlights from the event!

Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry, Ziauddin College of Dentistry, Ziauddin University under the supervision of Dr.Sidra Mohiuddin (Assistant Professor & HOD) along with Dr.Abeeha Batool Zaidi, Dr.Khizra Rehman, Dr.Mahnoor Moiz, Dr.Waqas Jadoon and House officers organized school oral health educational and promotional program on 14-January-2020.

They visited The Froebel’s School and screened senior section from class 6 till 8. Teams were divided in to two groups as they had screened both girls and boys sections where they have checked total of 250 school children and aware them about maintenance of good oral hygiene, importance of regular tooth brushing, mouth washing and floss, regular dental visits and eating raw food. Furthermore, school children were also educated about smokeless tobacco products and their harmful effects on oral cavity.

The team of students and house officers was divided in to three groups; each group was supervised by senior & trained faculty member of the department. They visited College of Pharmacy, College of Rehabilitation Sciences and College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, Ziauddin University. A total of 150 students were screened by dental students and house officers, moreover house officers were also involved in giving advice regarding medications and referrals to respective department according to the need of student.

 In addition dental health education focusing on oral hygiene instructions, proper brushing techniques, importance of healthy food and regular dental checkups were disseminated to the students. At the end of each examination sample Colgate toothpastes were given to all students. We are grateful to Colgate Pakistan for their ready cooperation and support in spreading oral health awareness.

The department of Community Dentistry, Ziauddin College of Dentistry ZU visited to Pakistan Public School on 15-05-2018 with second year BDS students as their regular planned dental outreach activity.

The trip was supervised by Dr.Sidra Mohiuddin (Assistant Professor  & Head of Department) along with her trained team; Dr.Atiya Karim (Sr.Lect) and Dr.Abeeha Batool, Dr.Khizra Rehman (Lecturers).

The agenda of the visit was to screen school children and spread oral health awareness among them. In addition to dental checkups by second year BDS students BMI of the school children was also measured by the students. The aim of whole exercise was to induce community interaction by our dental graduates.

Ziauddin University awarded 504 degrees to its graduating students of different disciplines at its 15th convocation held at the Expo Centre here on Wednesday.

Addressing the students, Sindh Governor Muha­mad Zubair, the chief guest on the occasion, emphasized the importance of quality education and praised the efforts of university chancellor Dr Asim Hussain for the institution.

Ziauddin University organized a Commencement Day ceremony for the Ziauddin College of Dentistry BDS Batch – IX. The new students and their parents were welcomed by Prof. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University, Prof. Dr. Mervyn Hosein, Principal, College of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Abbas Zafar, Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Nida Hussain, Director Faculty Affairs, and Registrar Mohammad Yousaf,

While addressing the audience in his welcome speech Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University, said “I personally on behalf of faculty members and management team welcome you all, my heartiest congratulations to all the parents for choosing perfectly right college for their children. I assure you that your children will learn many productive things here.” He further said; “We have firm education system, we have helpful staff, we have fine equipment here for you to experience yourself first, then to serve this society. Remember, if you will help people you’ll be rewarded by God.”

On this occasion Prof. Dr. Abbas Zafar, Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Ziauddin University said “I know you all worked really hard to get admission here so let me assure you all that we will facilitate you to our fullest. I congratulate and welcome you all. My good wishes and all prayers are with you.”

Prof. Dr. Mervyn Hosein, Principal, College of Dentistry, Ziauddin University congratulated to the IX Batch of College of Dentistry and expresses his feelings by saying this “Dear students your vision should be to make us proud, to make your parents proud and to make your country.” Earlier Mohammad Yousaf, Registrar of Ziauddin University handed over the roll of 50 fresh students of IX Batch in the discipline of faculty of dentistry.
